The tight-knit Rockaway community is grappling with deep sorrow following the sudden and tragic death of Justin Rasp, a beloved 23-year-old former football standout from Morris Knolls High School.
Justin passed away in a heartbreaking accident, leaving behind a family, team, and hometown that admired him for his strength, heart, and dedication both on and off the field.
Standing 5’11” and weighing 185 lbs, Justin was known during his high school years as a versatile athlete — playing primarily as a Tight End and Wide Receiver. He proudly wore #61 for the Junior Varsity team in 2017 and #57 on the Freshman team in 2016, becoming a familiar and respected face under the Friday night lights at Morris Knolls.
Coaches and teammates recall him as a hardworking, humble, and uplifting presence in the locker room.
“He played with grit and gave everything for his team,” said one former teammate. “But more than that, he was someone you could count on as a friend.”
Beyond athletics, Justin was remembered for his big heart, his smile that lit up a room, and his loyalty to those he loved. His loss has left the halls of his former school and the streets of Rockaway noticeably dimmer.
The Rasp family has asked for privacy as they process this unimaginable grief, but they welcome the community’s love and prayers. A memorial service is expected to be announced in the coming days.
As Rockaway mourns, tributes continue to pour in across social media from friends, classmates, and former coaches, all remembering a young man who was truly one of a kind.
